House By The Bay, SOUTH OF IRELAND

Sweeping views of the ocean, beautiful sights of beach dunes, and luscious country landscapes; the aspect from almost every window of Whiting Bay is an Irish classic.

These awesome views were central to the theme of our interior architecture and design brief, as we worked across all aspects of this large, 10,000 square ft family beach-house new build, on the south coast of Ireland. We designed a home with the sophisticated, cosmopolitan elegance of a city townhouse, with the space and comfort of a coastal beach home.

In helping to develop the architecture and layout of this home, with a courtyard central to the footprint, and a connected pool house overlooking the sea, we focused solely on the client’s purpose for this house, to relax, unwind and entertain en-masse.

There is an abundance of areas for lounging and dining in large numbers, both formally and informally, and there are several cosy breakout spaces nestled amongst a range of bedroom set-ups. All rooms are considered in relation to the outstanding views, with contemporary, floor to ceiling windows with a dark, thin frame. This detail extends to the loggia, which connects the vaulted poolhouse

We worked extensively on the lighting arrangements throughout, creating moods for day and night ambience, on atypical Irish days, with a mix of architectural and feature light fixtures with modern smart control systems.

Keeping the main reception rooms bright and airy, and keeping the focus almost always on the beautiful sea views, our interior design scheme offered luxury relaxation and comfort. Natural tones, from nature and of the sea, are used broadly throughout all rooms, elevated with luxury trims and finishes. Dark wood with brass detailing is used widely on bespoke joinery, and natural wood panelling and neutral floor and wall colours speak to the outside hues

In the feature kitchen, we paired materials like copper and rich oak with veined marble, mirror, glass and grey-toned finishes to create a neutral aesthetic under high ceilings. The bespoke L-shaped, dining banquette caters for many, and looks out over “An Muir Cheilteach”, the Celtic Sea, the picturesque view from the large picture window. This view is shared by the adjoining formal dining and lounge areas, which also open into one room for entertaining.

We worked on the detailing for all the remaining rooms in a similar palette, including the Master Suite, home cinema, bar and casual lounge, the series of guest bedrooms, all WCs, ensuites and bathrooms, the pool house, loggia and its associated facilities.

To the end of the project, it was our pleasure to provide interior styling and accessories, dressing all rooms to their complete finish so upon handover, our clients simply needed to bring their suitcases, and relax!
